We Are Those People
Drug overdoses stand as the leading cause of accidental deaths in the nation. According to the CDC, there were over 112,000 fatal overdoses within the 12 months ending in May 2023, marking the highest toll of overdose deaths ever documented in a single year in the U.S. Approximately 60% of these fatalities are attributed to illicitly manufactured or adulterated fentanyl. Fentanyl has emerged as the the leading cause of death among Americans aged 18 to 49, surpassing fatalities from car accidents, suicides, and gun violence. This surge in fentanyl-related deaths has profoundly reshaped the drug landscape in America. However, not all overdose fatalities stem solely from opioids.
